What is EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

I often tell those I work with that I could talk for hours about what EMDR is, the philosophy behind it, and the amazing healing I have been humbled to witness over the last five years. However, in an effort to keep this short and sweet, here’s the simplest way I’ve found to explain what EMDR can do: life struggles, no matter how big or seemingly small, can leave us with cuts and scrapes. And if we slap a bandage on it without cleaning out the dirt and debris, it gets infected. EMDR helps you to lift the bandage and clean out the wound so that it can heal properly.

We can’t erase or change the past, but we can bring down the intensity of your emotions, the negativity of your thoughts, and the sensations you feel in your body when you think of that thing that happened to you. This is the end result of EMDR, and it can be life changing.
